Mission and Outreach



Cassia Mullin of Faith UMC created the "Pablo Mosquito" pinata for an "Imagine No Malaria" fund-raiser at Faith United Methodist Church. Faith raised more than $25,000 for the national United Methodist Church campaign to stamp out malaria. The Minnesota Annual Conference of the church raised more than $2.2 million by the end of 2011.

Simpson Shelter Hot Meal

Faith UMC is scheduled to serve a hot meal at the Simpson Shelter in south Minneapolis on four Sundays during 2012: February 12, March 4, November 4 and December 2. Volunteers prepare the meal at the church, and then at 6 p.m. the meal is taken to the Simpson Shelter, where it is served. Generally eight to 10 volunteers are needed for serving the meal; we're generally finished by 8:30 p.m.. We are asking for home-made dessert bars so we can provide an extra treat to those who utilize this program. Meals on Wheels

On the first Wednesday of every month, Faith members and friends meet at the Taylor Street campus of Northeast United Methodist Church (the combined Trinity-Grace church) at 11:15 a.m. to deliver hot meals to shut-ins. Children are welcome to accompany you. Volunteers needed. Contact Mari Donaldson, 651-633-683.

Food Shelves

Faith UMC collects nonperishable food items all year long for the Northeast Emergency Depot (NEED) in Columbia Heights and the Ralph Reeder Food Shelf in New Brighton. The collection box is in the entry way by the parking lot. Contact Mary Ann Fitzer, 763-572-8248.

North East Senior Citizen Resource Center (NESCRC)

The North East Senior Citizen Resource Center, Inc. connects seniors to their neighbors, supporting lifelong learning, community service, and living independently with dignity. This organization has several programs for seniors, such as: 1) Fall and Spring Clean Up Days when volunteers do raking, yard cleanup, etc., 2) Provide rides to medical appointments, treatment centers, grocery stores, etc., and 3) Help with questions about Medicare or other medical bills. If you need help, or you can volunteer to help, please contact Kay Acton, 763-571-5005.

Eastside Thrift Store

Four times a year, help is needed to sort and sell items at the store located at 1900 Central Ave. NE. You may also contribute clothing, household items, toys, etc. Take items to the back door of the store. Hours are Monday - Friday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Contact Laura Murphy, 612-789-0600.

National

Appalachia Service Project (ASP)

Youth serve in mission to Appalachia for one week during the summer months. During this week, they repair and weatherize homes for families to make them warmer, safer, and drier. International

Heifer Project International

Heifer Project provides farm animals to families in third world countries to help end hunger and promote self-sufficiency. Fundraisers and cards are sold throughout the year. Contact Natalie McNall, 612-788-8117.

Nicaragua Mission Trips

In an effort to better understand and be more closely connected with people across the world, Faith UMC has developed a working relationship with Interfaith Service to Latin America (ISLA).
